Town name generator
Generate fantasy town, village and city names for D&D 5e. Compound English-style place names, instantly and free.
Real place names are compounds describing terrain or a landmark: a ford over a river, a ridge, a mill, a keep. This generator builds names the same way, joining a prefix to a suffix so the result sounds like somewhere that grew rather than somewhere that was invented.
That structure gives you free geography. If you roll Thornford, there is a crossing and there are thorns; if you roll Saltmere, the town is on brackish water and probably fishes or dries salt for a living. The name does the worldbuilding before you have written a word of it.
Reroll until two names share a prefix and you have just discovered that Greyfell and Greymoor were the same settlement before something split them — which is a plot, and it cost you one click.
